New Product Development - Beetroot Chocolate Bar

Cocoa Social Enterprise CIC has developed a new chocolate bar recipe which has no added sugar but has been sweetened only with beetroot.

The recipe was developed in response to the growing demands of people who are concerned about their immune system and healthy lifestyle amid the global pandemic [COVID 19].

This new flavor is a favorite especially with diabetic patients who are conscious of their blood sugar levels and it has been a great delight to those who are conscious about the amount of sugar in their diet.

After much testing, prototypes were given to customers to get their verdict on the taste, look, smell and snap!

Their response and honest feedback has helped to get the final product together.

TESTIMONALS

"We’ve just tried the beetroot chocolate, it’s really good. Excellent chocolate flavour, not at all sticky in the mouth, really good flavour balance without being sweet. I’ve just added a review to notonthehighstreet. Please feel free to use it." Elizabeth

" Hi Oyin, the chocolate is amazing....it really is perfect- it doesn't need sugar at all." Khadijah

" I really like this chocolate, it is not like any diabetic chocolate out there. I have had diabetics for a long time and this is really really good. It didn't raise my blood sugar levels. I tested my blood sugar using my diabetic kit after eating the beetroot chocolate and it was low" Helen

A final recipe has been settled upon after a lot of evidence based testing.

The chocolate bar which is naturally sweetened with beetroot - is a great source of fibre, folate (vitamin B9), iron, Vitamin C, potassium, anti-inflammatory capabilities and high antioxidants. Beetroot helps to improve blood flow and lower blood pressure.

Beetroots (Beta Vulgaris) have a glycemic index (GI) score of 61, which is considered medium. The GI is a measure of how fast blood sugar levels raise after a meal. The glycemic load is beetroots is only 5, which is very low. That means that beetroots should not have a major effect on blood sugar levels because the total carb amount in each serving is low.
